Who: My friend Katherine, her guy Nick, and I
What: A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, the Tony-winning musical comedy
When: January 2017
Where: The Hippodrome Theatre, Baltimore, MD
Why: I knew it was a must-see the moment I saw them perform on the 2014 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Thoughts: As mentioned, the show's performance at the Macy's parade caught my eye and I knew Gentleman's Guide was a show I had to say. The show closed before I could make a trip to New York happened, so I anxiously awaited two seasons for the national tour to make its way to Baltimore. It did not disappoint.
I'll be honest: the music didn't stick with me. Aside from "I've Decided to Marry You," I can't name a single song. No, instead of the music, I remember the laughs. Gentleman's Guide offers a special type of dark, over-the-top humor that probably doesn't suit everyone. But personally, I found the show hilarious and would jump at the chance to experience it again. From the goofy effects to the gorgeous period aesthetics, and the crazy talented casting of one man playing 8 people...this show was a delight!
