I adore green in two senses: the color and the lifestyle. Green clothing is a redhead's best friend, and green living is just smart. I don't need to tell you that I'm all about upcycling and waste reducing, but I do have to preface what I'm about to say by confessing that I've been a snob in one particular area of green living: the secondhand store.
I'll KonMari my house all day long, filling up bag after bag to donate to local charities and consignment shops, but I've always refused to set foot into said shops to, well...shop.
Sifting through disheveled racks of pieces in unpredictable conditions is a stressful concept to me. I'd much rather shop from my laptop where I can quickly filter by size and color and know I can just as easily return the goods if they aren't what I expected.
I couldn't wait to rip into that adorable polka dot packaging (I love how the dots are green—you get me, thredUP!) It felt like opening a present!
I've been upping my physical activity lately, so I decided to shop for some workout gear—in green, of course! Three clicks into the site (activewear, desired size, desired color) found me two green workout tanks (one lime, one kelly) for less than $25—and one of them Under Armour (originally $40)!
I saved so much, I decided to peek at their designer offerings...and scored the cutest avocado green $198 Kenneth Cole wallet...for the thredUP price of $51! It's like new for a quarter of the retail price!
thredUP is slowly chipping away at my snobbery and making my wardrobe and lifestyle a little greener. That KonMari time I mentioned above? I requested a cleanout bag, filled it with my new and like new clothes that I haven't worn in forever, and send them in, consignment-style, for cash or credit. They only accept about 40% of what they receive, but in my beloved green spirit, unaccepted items are upcycled into useable materials (or they can be returned to you for the cost of shipping). Either way, thredUP is moving clothes and accessories are onto a second life instead of creating more landfill waste—that's my kind of green!
What awesomeness does thredUP offer in your size? Take a look and use code HLH21 to take an additional 21% off your order! That will go farther than you think with $20 PayPal cash to score your own thredUP steals (they don't have gift cards)! Enter below:
Girl YAAAS to all of this. And I love the gif. I love threadup.
ReplyDeleteI love ThredUp! My favorite pair of jeans ripped and I find the exact same pair on there for a fraction of the retail cost!
ReplyDeleteI have heard so much about ThredUp lately. I am definitely going to have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHi. Just wanted to make a second suggestion. I understand what you're saying about thrift stores, but you might want to give consignment stores (the brick and mortar kind) another shot. I have fallen in LOVE with several local consignment shops BECAUSE of their excellent quality and convenience. These shops I also sell at too...so I know how picky they are about things being stylish and in great condition. AND, I've found that many consignment stores organize things by type and color and size...so all the skirts in the same general color, shirts in the same basic color, etc, are in the same place. So if I'm looking for a red shirt to match a skirt I have, I can just go to color section, bring my skirt, and quickly find several styles of shirts in a shade of red that matches it in my size. SO MUCH easier than having to search a whole store where all their red shirts are in different places, and actually easier than online too, where it's harder to see if the shade of red matches EXACTLY what I want.
ReplyDeleteI need to try this! Thanks for sharing. I wasn't sure how it worked.

Great concept and the 21% off coupon code is a winner too! #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about thrift stores. I donate to them, but hardly shop there since I hate searching for hours for stuff.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Thredup, and heard nothing but good things about them. Their website is so organized and easy to navigate. #ProductReviewParty
I think I'm going to have to give ThredUp a try. I don't mind thrift shops but if you can browse the products online, that makes it so much easier! #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great and the products you selected are great too...

I'm like you, I hate sifting through racks to find my size. I'm super small--meaning child size. So it's ridiculously hard for me to find professional clothing that fits well. I briefly heard about this awhile ago but didn't pay much attention to it. I'm definitely going to look into it. Tweeting this post! <3
ReplyDeleteOur thrift stores in our area are normally well cared for. Getting to them when they are open is the hard part. Thanks for sharing about thredUP!
