Got Married!
June 5, 2011
Made it a year. Celebrated with a kayaking excursion and anniversary photo shoot with Victoria Wolcott Photography.

Two years! Flat broke and had to work since it was a Monday, but celebrated with cake and a gift exchange.
We didn't even get a picture. But here we are a few weeks later in Maine. That counts, right? |

Three years! Still flat broke. Cake today and gifts come payday!
After my sister's recent graduation. She mailed me this as an anniversary gift. I think it summarizes our relationship well! |
If you asked us where we thought we'd be three years from our wedding, we'd have said in a house with a dog. Me advancing in the career my degree warranted me. Maybe in a different state, maybe even taking about kids. Definitely still happy and in love.
I often get depressed because out of all of those statements, only one is true. Thankfully, it is the last statement. That one being true makes dealing with the others more bearable.
We are still in a one bedroom apartment while the rent goes up and our hourly wages stay the same. I love my job but make what I did with just my high school diploma. No dog allowed in the apartment, and if we can't afford a home, we certainly aren't talking kids. It's not ideal, but it's OK. I come home to a best friend who loves me and If I had to choose, I would rather have him any day.
Happy Anniversary, Sean!
Aww, congratulations. I have the line all you need is love stuck in my head. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, Bekah & Sean!
ReplyDeleteBekah- I also just want to commend you on always being honest, and just .. being you. I can relate to you so much here. Scott & I made a lot of "goals" on our honeymoon that we hoped to have reached by our one year in two weeks.... but the only goal that we really have reached is still being in love with each other. Though a house, having a dog, and having more money would be SO awesome for both you guys (and us too!) .... in the end... it is really important to remember what matters most... and it's awesome that you can see that through all the frustration of life. We've lived in the same apartment for 3 years now, and while our pay stays the same, the rent goes up and up and up... almost $100 more every year. It's like getting hit on the head with a hammer, over and over and over again. Things like that could rip a relationship apart. So, I think it's so encouraging and so awesome that you guys have such a strong loving relationship. Loved this post, my friend. Enjoy today! =D
Happy anniversary! Truly, love it all you need <3

DeleteHappy Anniversary Bekah,
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with Karla! Thanks for being so honest...we struggle in the same way and we're only our first year. Sometimes it's hard to watch people move into homes, and begin life faster than you can. Kevin and I just signed a lease to stay in our tiny townhome for another year and it hurt. We wanted to move into a duplex by now or just something a little bigger, maybe something with a yard for our dog but no. That's just not where God has us right now.
Amen for God giving us glorious hope, encouragement and so much love in our spouses especially in those hard times!
Happy Anniversary, Bekah. I love your post. As I read it, I had the song, While I'm Waiting in my head. I know it is hard to be in the "waiting" mode, but God keeps us all there for different reasons while He is preparing us for something. Try not to run ahead of His plan for your life. Be in this moment and enjoy it. Trust me, soon you will have everything you wished for and you will be wishing for these simpler times.

Happy anniversary to you two! It's definitely hard not being in the season of life we think we should be but thankfully you're with the one you love. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! As long as you have each other, you are good. When you guys are older you will look back at these days fondly :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Just think, when that job comes along that utilizes your degree, you will cherish it more because you know how lucky you are to have it. A lot of people that work in their respective fields do take it for granted until it's gone.
ReplyDeleteBekah! New follower from the "2 Blessed 2 Be Stressed" Wednesday blog hop. Thanks for the support and I look forward to connecting. I pray that you will join along each week to share a bit of encouragement! Also...happy anniversary to you! I know that you may not have everything that you currently desire but God is working everything out for your good. Continue to speak your desires and they shall come to pass according to God's will! I pray that you all have many more blessed years! (Just celebrated by 7th anniversary on the 3rd)
ReplyDeleteHappy 3rd anniversary! I found your blog through the at Home with the Hinkleys giveaway and I am so glad I did, I love it and I am now following you!

ReplyDeleteGood things come to those that wait and sometimes when we compare ourselves with others we might envy but we do not know the real story behind the curtain.
